Asparargus 'Purple Passion'

 LIVE ROOT
SHIPS MID MARCH THROUGH END OF APRIL.

SORRY, WE CANNOT SHIP TUBERS AND PLANTS TO: AK, HI, APO, PR and FOREIGN COUNTRIES.

1 order = (10 roots) $14.95

2 or more orders- $13.50 each

Sweet and tender spears have a higher sugar content than green asparagus making this a favorite of the home gardener. The deep burgundy color and tender texture is almost completely stringless (young spears are often eaten raw). Zones 4-9.

PLANTING

The best time to set roots is from April 10 to May 20. Roots are set 12-14" apart in a trench 6-8" below ground level in rows 4-5' apart. Initially covered with 2" of soil with the remainder of the trench being gradually filled throughout the rest of the year. Light cutting possible the year after the bed is established. Take care in locating this planting as it could last a lifetime. Large one-year-old roots.

Growing well

Asparagus are growing well in the hot Georgia summer heat during their first year of establishment. Looking forward to picking them next year.

Wow!

We bought 25 Purple Passion Asparagus roots this spring. Although they looked slightly fragile when they appeared, as bare root often does, these little plants were anything but wimpy! To grow great asparagus in spring, you have to grow the ferns in summer. Well, we are now in August right after prolonged heat and barely any rain in July, but they are doing great! They keep putting up new fern after new fern! This is the best, strongest, and most encouraging asparagus we’ve ever grown. If the harvest is as plentiful as the ferns promise, we are going to be happy campers come Spring!
