Asprargus 'Purple Passion'

Quantity

 LIVE ROOT

SHIPS MID MARCH THROUGH END OF APRIL.

SORRY WE CANNOT SHIP TUBERS AND PLANTS TO: AK, HI, APO, PR and FOREIGN COUNTRIES.

Sweet and tender spears have a higher sugar content than green asparagus making this a favorite of the home gardener. The deep burgundy color and tender texture is almost completely stringless (young spears are often eaten raw).

Zones 4-9.

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS:

The best time to set roots is April 10 to May 20. Roots are set 12-14" apart in a trench 6-8" below ground level in rows 4-5' apart. Initially covered with 2" of soil with the remainder of the trench being gradually filled throughout the rest of the year. Light cutting possible the year after the bed is established. Take care in locating this planting as it could last a lifetime. Large one year old roots.

Vigorous, awesome plants

We ordered 25 crowns in 2017 and trenched them in our native clay mixed with soil and sand, mulched and let them ride. Nearly all of them had multiple thin, ferny stalks through the summer, but this spring has been the surprise: every crown has sent up at least one finger-thick, beautiful purple stalk of asparagus! I wasn't expecting to have more than a couple of harvestable stalks this year, but it's been a wonderful surprise. Thank you for the healthy crowns, Pinetree!
