Hamamelis virginiana

This native deciduous shrub blooms in the late fall and is valued for both its color and medicinal properties. Even after all the leaves have fallen, the bright yellow flowers persist through November, giving it great winter interest. Best planted in full sun to part shade, Witch Hazel can tolerate a variety of soil types but prefers acidic soils rich with organic matter. This shrub is great for rain gardens, windbreaks and erosion control. 2-3 ft Bare root plant. Zones 3-8

PLANTING

Dig a hole as deep as the roots and wide enough to allow the roots to spread. Plant in full sun to partial shade. Prefers slightly acidic, moist soil. Amend soil with compost prior to planting if necessary. Water regularly.

So Much Life and Growth!

I love the way my "whip" of witch hazel is growing and thriving, and really appreciated the careful communication and service from Pinetree.

Which Hazel?

Received two dormant little witch hazel plants earlier in the spring. They were well packed and arrived in good shape. I planted them immediately and am pleased to see them healthy and growing.

Not pleased !!! All I got was a single stem stick.

I am less than pleased with my purchase of this and a couple other things this season spring 2022. As a long time, 4 decades in fact gardener who has bought things online, catalogs and in local nurseries. I feel this was over priced for what I got and their isn't enough information on the actual size of what you get. I got a 18inch single stem stick. With the leader tip bent and looks broken only time will tell. Its a hazel it will if it lives send out more I know. However had I known I was paying the price of what would of bought me locally at least a gallon sized bushy bush... I WOULD OF SKIPPED ORDERING THIS. $18.99 for a single stick is not a fair price. by at least half.. (being generous as I know its partly padded for shipping ) And for something that roots so easy and only a years growth to it. I feel this was 3 times more than it should of been priced for.. Upset I feel ripped off personally. I would not recommend buying this unless your aware of the facts. You will get a bare root stick. I am ok with bare root I feel they transfer stronger just really niffed at the cost for a whip. And the lack of description in the catalog and online.
