Elongated radish roots produce a vigorous root system that pulls up nitrogen along with other important nutrients from deep within the soil, bringing them back up to the surface while increasing water infiltration, soil aeration, and weed suppression. This mining of nutrients from deep down becomes available to the next crops once the radish decomposes. Sow August through September, the further north you are the earlier you want to seed. Sow 1 lb per 1000 sq ft.
