Fortex Pole Bean (60 Days)

Many of you asked us to offer this variety in our catalog and we now know why it is an extraordinary French filet bean. Growing to over 10”, the delicious round pods have a pronounced nutty flavor that can be harvested at any size, small and slender or large and plump. Yields are impressive and long-lasting, keeping you picking to the end of the season. To all those customers who suggested we carry this bean, thank you! Stringless. Disease Resistance-Common Bean Mosaic

50 seeds

Phaseolus vulgaris

Germination: 4-10 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures are 70-85ºF

Seed Sowing Depth: 1” deep

Outside Sowing: After the last frost with soil temperatures above 60ºF.  Sow 3- 4” apart for trellis/pole growth. Planting in soil under 60ºF results in poor germination.

How much does a packet plant: 12-foot single row

Harvest: Before the seeds bulge and beans snap easily. Pick continually every 2-3 days to prolong production.

Tips: Grow in light, well-drained soil, provide adequate, even moisture, especially at flowering time. Dry soil can result in low yields and fibrous pods. Do not over-fertilize with nitrogen which results in a surplus of foliage and low, delayed pod growth. Adding inoculant at planting time aids in a larger harvest and more robust plants.

Maine seeds flourish in Hawaii

The Fortex string bean seed that I purchased from Pinetree thrived in Hawaii. Unlike my Maine gardens, here on the Big Island of Hawaii, all our gardening is done in raised beds on top of crushed lava. Because of that limitation, instead of planting bush beans I planted these climber/pole beans. I've harvested 4 times now, and neighbors have been pleased with my gifts, too. I planted yellow beans, too.

My favorite bean

The flavor is exquisite: sweet, nutty and earthy. They stay stringless and tender even when allowed to get to 10+ inches. They produce until it snows if watered and fertilized again in August. Their production is moderate so I grow them with Carminat, a heavy producer and Monte Gusto, another moderate producer. Highly recommend all 3 kinds if you let your beans go hog wild and get long; all 3 remain tender and stringless.

Fortex Pole Beans

They just are getting their beans now. Great plants, I have been growing them for years and are never disappointed. I would chose them over any other bean I have ever grown. Great eating, can't wait for this years crop.

Needed more seeds in a hurry

I made an "emergency" purchase of additional seeds to fill the bean space in the garden. The germination rate was almost 100%, customer service & shipping was excellent. We will be purchasing all our seeds from you next year. Thanks!
