Because you can never go wrong with a homemade biscuit, here is resident chef and Pinetree co-owner Jef's recipe for fresh baked biscuits! They are a perfect addition to any meal or as a snack!
For the biscuits:
3 cups all purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup (1 1/2sticks) chilled unsalted butter, cut into 1/4-inch pieces
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup grated sharp cheddar
1 tablespoon sugar
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup (1 1/2sticks) chilled unsalted butter, cut into 1/4-inch pieces
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup grated sharp cheddar
Preheat oven to 425°. Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and baking soda in large bowl to blend.
Using fingertips, rub chilled butter into dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse meal, some big pieces are good.
Add buttermilk and stir until evenly moistened.
Fold in cheddar.
Line baking pan with parchment paper.
Using 1/4 cup dough for each biscuit, drop biscuits onto baking sheet, spacing 2 inches apart
Bake until biscuits are golden brown on top, about 15 minutes. Cool slightly. Serve warm.
Yum. Nice presentation with the ingredients first (for reference or those who already know the process) and nice pictures of each step (for beginners.)
Jef,
Receiving your homemade biscuit recipe today, the SAME day that I placed an order with Smithfield Hams of Virginia for a Ham & Bacon Breakfast BISCUIT Kit is EERIE, to say the least. Is it possible that Pinetree has “discreetly” placed cameras and microphones in their customers’ homes??
A very Merry Christmas to you and your family
John
Is it the same recipe for whole wheat flour? Thank you.
I LOVE biscuits. They satisfy my craving for crispy and salty in one package. I thought I would give a hint, for easy dispensiing of the 1/4 cup of dough. I make big gluten freeoatmeal cookies, to sell at Farmer’s Market. I have found two different ice cream scoops, which make perfect sized cookies every time. One is 3 Tablespoons and the one I use for the oatmeal cookies, is 4 Tablespoons (1/4 cup) that is a LOT easier than getting sticky dough out of a measuring cup, for each biscuit. ;D
Hi Sue! Great tip about the dried buttermilk! You can also find powdered cream to keep in the pantry. Both are great to have around when the need to bake strikes!
