Spacemaster Cucumber (59 Days)

A full sized 7 1/2 “ cuke, primarily a slicer, on a short 3’ vine; good for trellising in a tight spot or in a container. Its nice flavor and appearance is enhanced by its resistance to mosaic and scab.

PLANTING

Cucumis sativus

Germination: 4-10 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 70-85ºF

Seed Sowing Depth: 1/2-1" deep

Sowing Indoors: 3-4 weeks before last frost. Provide 70-85ºF soil temperature. Sow 2-3 seeds per cell/pot. Sowing into individual biodegradable peat/cow pots reduces root damage when transplanting. Transplant 36-48" apart after last frost.

Sowing Outdoors: Sow after last frost when soil temperature is over 70ºF. Sow a few seeds every 36-48".

Harvest: Check and pick every day to keep the harvest flowing.

Tips: Plant in fertile soil, amended with compost or well rotted manure and keep well watered. Trellising the vines allows for good air circulation, takes up less space and provides shade for heat sensitive crops like lettuce. They benefit from growing on black plastic and by using row covers for weed, insect control, and more rapid growth.

    SPACEMASTER CUCUMBER

I grew SPACEMASTER CUCUMBER last year. I constructed a Teepee bamboo structure about 4' high and in a circle about 4' diameter and planted SPACEMASTER CUCUMBERS. I laced twine around the bamboo and let the cukes climb up the Teepee. Some cukes grew on the Teepee some on the ground. The Teepee structure contained the cucumber tendrils well without spreading outside the frame too much. The plant tendrils are 4' or so. The cucumbers are nice sized just a bit smaller than ones in the market. They made delicious salads are were productive. We missed them when the growing season ended. I am growing them again this year.

    Awesome Selection!

I grow this variety in my raised veg boxes that I do with "lasagna compost". Consistent performer in extreme heat & drought (summer 2015) and cool & wet (August 2016). Good sized slicer with mild flavour for salads or cold plate. Only one I would plant!
