Sea Kale

This rare, perennial cabbage-like kale is a versatile addition to any garden. Its wavy blue-gray leaves add color to an all-season garden while its fragrant blossoms attracts pollinators (and our trial gardener!) throughout the summer. Sea Kale is native to the coastal North Atlantic.  Its blossoms, textured leaves, and midribs can all be eaten throughout the growing season.

Perennial, Zone 5-8

Germination:  3-6 weeks, irregular

Seed Planting Depth: Remove outer casing before sowing. Sow 1/4" deep.

Starting Indoors/Outdoors: Start Sea Kale indoors 6-12 weeks before last frost (most optimum for germination) Provide 60-70 degrees soil temperatures. Transplant after last frost, 30" apart. Direct sow outdoors around last frost date, 2-3 seeds per foot.

Soil Needs:  Average to dry, well drained sunny areas
