PLANTING
Brassica oleracea var. gongylodes
Germination: 7-10 days
Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 60-75ºF.
Seed Sowing Depth: 1/4" deep
Sowing Outdoors: Starting in spring when soil temperature reaches 60 ºF. Sow seeds 1-2" apart, thin 3-8” apart. The larger the bulb size the more space. Sow in mid to late summer for fall harvest.
How much does a packet plant: 4-6 foot single row
Harvest: Bulbs from spring plantings under 2-3” for the most tender and sweet bulbs. Fall plantings can survive frosts and can be harvested when they are larger.
Tips: The Early White Vienna Kohlrabi should be planted in fertile soil, and amended with compost before planting if needed. Grows best in the cooler weather of spring and late summer. Summer heat makes the bulbs woody and dry. Adequate moisture is needed for optimum growth.
