Alkanet or wild bugloss. This plant is truly wonderful and very underused in gardens. A perfect plant for the border of a cottage style garden with deep azure blue, pink, and white flowers that stand out, blooming for a very long time.  An easy plant to grow, all it needs is average to dry soil - definitely not high-maintenance. Grows to 12”.

Annual

Germination: 7-30 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 65-70ºF

Seed Planting Depth: Sow on the surface and press into soil, seeds need light to germinate

Starting Indoors:  Start indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Provide 65-70ºF soil temperature. Transplant apart after the last frost, 10-12” apart.  

Sowing Outdoors: After the last frost date, sow a few seeds every 8-12” apart.

Spacing: 6-12" apart

Light Needs: Full sun 

Soil Needs:  Average to dry, well-drained

Care: Water seedlings regularly until established. Amend soil with compost before transplanting. Deadhead flowers to encourage more blooms.
