Early yields of uniform, high quality 5-6 lb fruits. Firm salmon colored flesh has a fruity aroma and small seed cavity with a good shelf life after harvest. Good disease resistance for powdery mildew and fusarium wilt.
This is a wonderful melon and is large and great tasting. I have been raising Hale's Best for the last several years. The problem is, it is hard to tell when they are ripe. Frequently when they look ripe, they are also rotten. If you don't pick them when they appear a little green, you will not get any to eat. The Athena holds fantastic. I have not had one single rotten melon. This is my melon of choice.
