Valerian

Valeriana officinalis

Plants grow to 5 feet tall with white, pink, or lavender flowers. The root is of the greatest benefit, harvested from 2 year old plants. A natural tranquilizer, said to encourage sleep and reduce anxiety. 50 seeds

Planting

Perennial, zone 4-7

Germination:  7-14 days

Seed Planting Depth:  on surface, lightly cover

Starting Indoors/Outdoors:  Start indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Provide 65-70 degree soil temperature.Transplant 12" apart. Sow outdoors in spring 1-2 weeks before the last frost date, or in the fall , a few seeds every 2-3", thinning to 12-15" apart  

Light Needs:  Full sun to light shade

Soil Needs:  Fertile, well drained but moist

Uses:Culinary, medicinal, ornamental

    Very vigorous

    This herb was so easy to grow. It was very vigorous with little care.All the seeds I planted grew and plant stayed very healthy. So pleased with this purchase.
