CLEOME - VIOLET QUEEN

6 reviews
An old fashioned favorite, also known as Spider Flower, cleome's large airy flowers bloom atop sturdy 4 foot stalks. A very stately centerpiece in the garden or as a cut flower for large arrangements. If pinched when about 6 inches tall, each plant will branch out to produce a half dozen or more blooms. Best started in cool soil, cleome does fine in partial shade and is a good bee plant. This plant sometimes does best when planted in the fall, also self-seeds readily. A very pretty lavender. needed high heat to sprout

i started these seeds in march under grow lights. nothing sprouted. i had other stuff growing in the tray and when i moved that tray out to my greenhouse in april, still nothing sprouted. BUT!!! then june 1 we had a 90 degree day and *poof* all the cleome seeds instantly sprouted. the 80 degree temps and greenhouse sunshine wasnt enough to sprout them, nope. not until it was 90+ degrees would the seeds sprout. two full months after they'd first been planted in seed starting pots.

Well I just started them

Well I just started them inside and the seeds have come up in the one container but they are a bit slower in the other. Some of the other seeds I ordered are doing good so far, we will see how they transplant.

Pinetree Garden Seeds

Hi Walt, The Cleome seeds like to germinate in 75-80' temperatures. They germinate in 10-21 days. If you still have a lot of growing time left, it's quite possible to try them again. Pinetree Garden Seeds

I love it!

When it gets big enough to bloom (I planted late). I will try to remember to send a picture. I always get oohs and aahs on the cleome.
