Safari Red Marigold

Safari Red is actually an amalgam of many shades of red, mahogany, bronze, and copper. The two constants are that the backs of the petals and all of the centers are yellow. The 10-inch plants create a varied and striking display.

Poor germination

I was surprised with the poor germination for these--about 40%. I usually get nearly 100% germination with marigold seeds, even when the seeds are 10 years old. I started these indoors along with a dozen other types of marigolds seeds purchased from other seed companies or that I'd saved myself. They were all under identical conditions and I used the same coir brick for all. There's no reason on my end for the poor germination. I've been growing marigolds from seeds for more than 30 years and this is the worst germination rates that I had. All of the seeds I ordered from this company had unusually low germination rates. Hopefully these will transplant well so I gave them 3 stars.

Excellent

This was way more than I expected from a marigold, the plants were decent through the hot North Carolina summer, and then flourished in our fall. They are covered with red and orange flowers even though we've had a very dry fall, ,they seem to require little water and are stunning. I don't normally like marigolds, but will buy these again, or save the seeds.
