Flying Saucers Morning Glory

Introduced by Seedsman Darold Decker in 1960, this lofty vine is covered with spectacular 6" flowers of white etched with varying amounts of sky blue. Very impressive from a distance.

20 seeds

Germination: 7-30 days, chipping seed coat or soaking seeds overnight aids in the germination.

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 70-80ºF.

Seed Planting Depth: Sow 1/4” deep

Starting Indoors: Start indoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost. Provide 70-80ºF soil temperature. Using peat, cow, or paper pots can help with the stress of transplanting, they grow delicate roots and successful transplanting may be challenging. Transplant into the garden after the last frost.

Sowing Outdoors: After the last frost, when soil is over 70 ºF. Sow a few seeds every 8-12".

Growth Habit: Climbing

Height: 8-10

Spacing: 8-12” apart

Light Needs:  Full sun

Soil Needs: Average to fertile, well-drained

Approximate days to flower from seed: 90 plus days. Blooms toward the end of summer, the middle of August until frost.

Uses: Climbs trellises, fences, and poles

Care: Water seedlings regularly until established. Amend the soil with compost before transplanting. Mulching helps retain moisture. Over-fertilizing can result in low to no flowers.

It's too early to know

It is still snowing out here. So nobody is planting morning glories. But last year this variety was phenominal. All the seeds came up bloomed fairly early and were really showy. That is why I ordered more this year. They were my favorite morning glories. --Carroll
