Blue Wave Petunia

Another in the wave series that is probably the single most popular bedding plant in the country and as with others in the series an All America Selection-this one for 2003. The color is a purplish blue and the petals have a particularly velvety texture.

PLANTING

Petunia hybrida

Annual 

Germination: 10-21 days

Seed Planting Depth: Sow on surface, needs light to germinate

Starting Indoors:  Start indoors 8-10 weeks before the last frost. Provide 70-80ºF soil temperature. Transplant after the last frost, 12-28" apart. Water seedlings regularly until established. 

Sowing Outdoors: We do not recommend starting petunia seeds outdoors

Spacing: 12-18" apart

Light Needs:  Full sun 

Soil Needs:  Loose, rich, well drained

Approximate days to flower from seed: 90 days

Uses: Flower beds, containers, hanging baskets or window boxes 

Care: When grown in containers petunias need to be fertilize and watered regularly. This will keep the plants blooming all season long. During the heat of summer they will need to be watered a few times a week. When growing petunias in the ground amend the soil with compost before planting.  Apply liquid fertilizer every 1-2 weeks or use a time release fertilizer at planting time.
