Siberian Iris are a lovely addition to your perennial garden! They are a long-lived perennial that can tolerate all soil types and will grow in full sun to part shade. This season we are featuring “Butter and Sugar”, one of the first yellow varieties in production hybridized by Maine resident Dr. Currier McEwen who was a pioneer in creating new varieties of Siberian and Japanese Iris. The Governor of Maine proclaimed June 22nd as “Currier McEwen Day”.

PLANTING

Plant in full sun. Grow in sandy, loamy soil but tolerates all types, even heavy clay soil. Set the rhizomes 1 inch deep (2 inches, if the soil is sandy), 2 feet apart. Do not mulch around the rhizome as this may encourage rot.
