RAINBOW CARROT (F1 hybrid 57 days)

2

Germ 6-14 days
One of the more unique vegetables that we sell. This carrot produces an amazing selection of possible colors; a white, 2 yellows, 2 oranges and a beautiful soft coral. Flavors for each shade are all slightly different. This is not a mixture; the same hybrid seed produces all. 300 seeds

PLANTING:

Outdoors- Early spring, a few weeks before last frost until mid summer. Sow lightly, 1/4” deep, with soil temperature 50-80 degrees. The cooler the soil the longer it takes for germination, up to 3 weeks. The soil moisture should be maintained regularly until germination. Thin to 1-3” apart.

Harvest– Start when carrots reach finger size for baby carrots or when they turn to a bright orange. Late season carrots hold longer and become sweeter in the cooler weather.

Tips- Use a row cover helps to maintain moisture for germination. Carrots prefer a loose soil, free of rubble. If your soil is heavy with clay, use the shorter varieties. Keep well weeded and cover any exposed carrot with soil to prevent greening.

Rainbow Carrots

We have limited growing space and I use the best spots for other veggies, so our carrot harvest is usually mediocre. We tried this variety this past summer and it did great (while the other 2 varieties never really took off.) It made some long, thick carrots in some fairly low quality soil. They had a great texture and a delicious sweet taste, and the different colors were fun too.

Rainbow Carrots

I have grown rainbow carrots for the past 15 years and they are far superior to any others I have tried. Their flavor is excellent and they can't be beat for storage. I measured some at 15 inches long. They are beautiful in the garden and on the table.
