Purple Trionfo Violetto Pole Bean *sold out*

Germ 4-10 days
This pole bean is from our Italian supplier, Fratelli Ingegnoli, and what the brothers sent us is far superior to any purple bean we have grown before. Vines emerged early and soon overran not just their trellis, but also the adjacent rows of corn. Light purple blossoms were very ornamental and soon turned into thousands of dark purple beans. Best harvested young, but even at the 8” stage they remain tender. They turn green when cooked and the nutty sweet flavor is great. Expect at least a 10 week harvest. 50 seeds

Outside- Bush type: 1” deep and 4-6” apart with soil temperatures above 60 degrees and after the last frost. Planting under 60 degrees results in poor germination. Pole type: Plant 1” deep and 3- 4” apart for trellis/pole growth. Drying type: 1” deep and 5-6” apart. Leave beans on the plant until the leaves are falling and pods are dry and withered

Harvest- Before the seeds bulge and beans snap easily. Pick continually to prolong production.

Tips- Water well during hot dry period and do not over fertilize which results in a surplus of foliage and low, delayed pod growth. Adding inoculant at planting time aids in a larger harvest and more robust plants. Plant seeds every 2-3 weeks for continual harvest throughout the summer.

What a fantastic variety!

WOW! These live up to your description, bigtime, and from here on, I will never garden without them. (This from an old lady who'd been growing Kentucky Wonders for 50 years and figured she always would!) The plants are VERY vigorous, and the yields are just completely nuts. My first picking off three young plants gave me eight pounds of beans, and then they kept on producing for three more months. They're pretty enough for a flower garden, too, with deep pink to deep lavender flowers and rich dark purple beans--easily as pretty as scarlet runners, and easier to grow where it's hot. Fine taste--very Italian, sweet and "beany". Highly, highly recommended.

One of my favorite beans

Having grown this bean for years--and loved it--I tried another purple bean last year. Never again!! These are beautiful in the garden, delicious at table, and easy to grow. Easily one of my top three beans.
