Pinetree Lettuce Mix - 1/2 ounce Package

8 reviews

We have been experimenting with various Mesclun Mixes from France and Italy and you will find these in the greens section. We see a number of advantages to mixing greens: you get a variety of colors, textures, tastes and maturation times from the same planting. This mix has a uniquely American twist, however; they are all leaf lettuces and all sweet varieties. The mix will contain most of the loose-leaf varieties in the catalog and nearly a dozen others. This has become our best selling item and we continue to receive hundreds of compliments on it.

Approximately 15,000 seeds

Lactuca sativa

Germination: 4-10 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 60-70ºF. Soil temperatures above 75 ºF inhibits germination.

Seed Sowing Depth: ¼ inch deep

Starting Indoors:  Start 3-4 weeks before planting outside. Sow 2-3 seeds per cell/pot, thinning to one per cell/pot. Provide 60-70ºF soil temperatures. Transplant out, 8-12” apart in rows 12” apart.

Sowing Outdoors: Spring when soil temperature reaches at least 50ºF. Sow 1” apart, thin to 6-12”, depending on the size of lettuce you want, baby to full heads. Keep soil moist during germination. Sow every 2-3 weeks for a longer harvest period. Sow heavy seeded rows every 10-14 days for baby greens using the 1/2 oz. Pinetree Lettuce Mix.

How much does a packet plant: 25-40 foot single row

Harvest: Cut whole heads, full sized or baby at base or snipe off individual leaves.

Tips: Lettuce needs fertile soil for optimum growth. Work in compost or well rotted manure into your soil before planting. Provide adequate, even moisture for the best growth. Mulching helps retain moisture.

Can't Believe I Waited So Long!

I have been a Pinetree customer for many years and never pulled the trigger on this lettuce mix, in spite of its fantastic reviews. I am so impressed. I planted the seed densely for baby "cut and come again" lettuces. I have "cut and come again" at least four or five times and there is still usable lettuce out there! These lettuces grow very quickly and it is a very pretty mix of varieties.

I recommend this product

Have always been satisfied with the service and the seeds I have received from this company. Have enjoyed many salads from this mix with enough to share with the pet goats. We are all very happy.

Incredible array of greens

The variety of lettuces in this mix is wonderful. Mixed with astro arugula, its the tastiest salad I’ve ever eaten.

Greenhouse experiment

I purchased this mix to try in my new greenhouse. The sunny day temperatures are around 80 and I keep the night temperatures in the mid 30’s. This mix is growing great. I’m about to have my first salad from my first planting. It’s very uplifting to see this beautiful mix on a cold dreary winter day.

THE best lettuce mix ever!

I recommend it to all my friends! The germination has been great and the lettuces never seem to bolt. The perfect blend of mild and sweet!
