Opal Creek Snap Pea (70 Days)

The first-ever yellow podded snap pea available to grow, bred by Peace Seeds and named after an old-growth forest in Oregon. White flowers turn into slender, pastel lemon pods, growing on robust, 6-foot vines that accept heat well, it was the last of ours to perish in this season trials. Sweet, but not overly so, having a fresh pea taste, perfect for eating raw.

1 Ounce = 70-90 seeds

Pisum sativum

Germination: 7-14 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 50-75ºF. Planting in cooler soil results in slower germination.

Seed Sowing Depth: 1" deep

Sowing Outdoors- Early spring until last frost date when the soil temperature reaches 50-75ºF. Sow 1-2" apart. Sow two months before the last frost date for smaller fall harvests.

How much does a packet plant: 12-15 foot single row

Harvest- Pick every day for continuous harvest.

Tips- Adding inoculant with rhizobium bacteria will increase yields. Varieties with vine lengths over 3 feet require support.

Glad I Tried It

I decided to try something new to me...that was a great idea! Opal Creek proved to be a sweet, tender snap, and even without inoculating the seed the plants were vigorous and healthy. I very easily brought in a generous harvest. The plant is still producing at this time.
