7 Reviews

A reliable producer for an early to mid summer harvest or for a fall crop with a mid summer planting. Smooth, attractive, blue green heads are tightly packed. After the main head is cut it will show off with a high amount of side shoots.

30 seeds

Brassica oleracea

Germination: 3-10 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 65-85ºF.

Seed Sowing Depth: 1/4” deep

Starting Indoors: 4-6 weeks before last frost. Sow 2-3 seeds per cell/pot. Thin to the strongest seedling. Fertilize the seedlings every 7-10 days with a liquid or water soluble fertilizer, diluted to ¼ of suggested measurement. Transplant a week or two before last frost. Space 12-18" apart. Sow in early to midsummer for fall crops.

Sowing Outdoors: Spring when soil temperature reaches at least 55ºF. Sow 2-3 seeds every 12-18” apart. Thin to the strongest seedling per space. Sow in midsummer for fall crops. Germination is slower at lower soil temperatures.

Harvest: Pick when heads are tight before flower buds starts to open. For varieties that produce side shoots keep picked for a longer production

Tips: Provide fertile soil, rich in organic matter from the very beginning of its growth in the garden. Give adequate, even moisture for the best growth. Mulching helps retain moisture.

All Product Review

All of the seeds I have purchased from you over the years have produced excellent results. Love the broccoli! Has a smooth mild taste and not bitter even when it gets hot. Lots of side shoots. We had 8 plants two years ago that gave us 56 packages of frozen broccoli, enough for two years for us. The peas, beets and squash have always produced terrific crops as well. Keep up the good work!

Great but still bolted

Had nearly 100% survival from seed to harvest. Liquid fertilized, composted, and mulched the whole way—they did great. They withstood bolting while others caved. However, they still attempted to go to seed before they grew large. In Zone 5, we were paying very close attention and harvested before it was too late. The head formation was 4-6", with the 30 plants yielding about 6lbs of broccoli. For the hobby gardener, don't plan on leaving town if you're growing an early crop! Looking forward to seeing what it will produce in side shoots--otherwise this variety was not worth our time.

I haven't planted so I can't say how I like it. It's still winter in my zip code and snow on the ground. Text me in about 4 months with your other questions! Thanks
