HEIRLOOM 1863. We got the seed for this variety from our friend Glenn Drowns at the Sand Hill Preservation Center, 1878 230th Street, Calamus, Iowa 52729. If you are interested in heirloom seeds or poultry, Glenn is the real deal, and he produces a fascinating catalog. Golden Ball was brought to this country from London in 1855. It is sweet, tender, and mild with dark yellow flesh. They get huge if left, but flavor is best when harvested at 3-4". A good keeper. Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep and 3 inches apart as soon as the ground can be worked and continue throughout the season. 100 seeds
Outdoors- Sow 1/2” deep, 1” apart then thin to 3-6” depending on variety size, starting in early spring through late summer. Plant every 2 weeks for continuous harvest.
Harvest- Leafy greens and roots from baby to full size. The younger the roots the more tender better flavor.
Tips- Plant in fertile soil, amended with compost, mulch and provide consistent moisture.
