Fortex Pole Bean (60 days)

Germ 4-10 days

Many of you asked us to offer this variety in our catalog and we now know why, it is an extraordinary French filet bean. Growing to over 10”, the delicious round pods have a pronounced nutty flavor that can be harvested at any size, small and slender or large and plump. Yields are impressive and long lasting, keeping you picking to the end of the season. To all those customers who suggested we carry this bean, thank you! Stringless    30 seeds

Outside- Bush type: 1” deep and 4-6” apart with soil temperatures above 60 degrees and after the last frost. Planting under 60 degrees results in poor germination. Pole type: Plant 1” deep and 3- 4” apart for trellis/pole growth. Drying type: 1” deep and 5-6” apart. Leave beans on the plant until the leaves are falling and pods are dry and withered

Harvest- Before the seeds bulge and beans snap easily. Pick continually to prolong production.

Tips- Water well during hot dry period and do not over fertilize which results in a surplus of foliage and low, delayed pod growth. Adding inoculant at planting time aids in a larger harvest and more robust plants. Plant seeds every 2-3 weeks for continual harvest throughout the summer.

Filet beans these are not, but so tender and flavorful!

One of our favorites, Fortex can grow to be 12" long or even more and become quite thick, however, even the plumpest of the lot rivals any filet bean in terms of tenderness. Not the prettiest of beans but it can't be beat in terms of flavor. Had problems with deer so they need protecting but very well worth the effort. Will always make room in the garden for them!

Fortex Beans

Grew these for the first time and was amazed!! Long ten inch beans that taste amazing! Should have had better supports, but they are on a wire fencing and are trailing along the top of the fence. Any higher and I wouldn't be able to pick them. Planted in June and getting a harvest now in August. Will definately grow again.

We gave grown Fortex for many years and love them.

Unfortunately the only surprise was the meager number of seeds in the package. Based on the estimate I expected twice as many seeds as I got. I doubt if there were 20 seeds in the package.

Hi Gene, I apologize that you received a short packet of seeds. I would be happy to send you another packet if you would like or I would be happy to provide a refund or credit, whichever you prefer. Please let me know what I can do for you.

Mixed results

Grew fortex beans two years ago with great success--good yield, fine taste. However, this year they were very slow to germinate, and are less vigorous than other pole beans I'm growing. No beans yet, so maybe they'll come through for me eventually.

So far, so good

Th beans I bought are growing as they should, although not as vigorously as I would like, but that is due to location and not the bean. They was a high germination rate on the seeds, but my garden doesn't currently get enough sun . I would certainly buy from this company again.
