Cocozelle Summer Squash (Heirloom)

3

Germ 7-10 days
Italian Heirloom
Bush type heirloom zucchini decorated with dark and light green stripes. Tender, flavorful, and firm greenish white flesh is best picked under 12”. In Italy, it is eaten when only 1-2” long. Great for the small garden or container planting and also good for freezing and canning. 20 seeds

PLANTING:

Indoors- Plant in individual biodegradable peat/cowpots 1/2”-1” deep, 3-4 weeks before last frost with soil temperature 70 degrees. Transplant 36” apart after last frost without disturbing the roots

Outdoors- 1/2”-1” deep after last frost, in warm soil at least 70 degrees. Sow a few seeds per space/hill with 24-36”.

Harvest- Check and harvest a few times a week. Cut or kindly twist off fruit, starting at a 3-4”.

Tips- Plant in fertile soil amended with compost or well rotted manure and keep well watered. They benefit from growing on black plastic and by using row covers for weed, insect control, and more rapid growth. Fertilize on a regular basis by watering with compost tea. Sow every few weeks for a continuous supply.

zucchini

Cocozelle is an Italian favorite due to its rich flavor and tenderness, even when it gets big (like 16" long). One plant will keep a family of 2 in zucchini all summer. We saute it with onion, peppers, garlic and tomato, or add tofu, beef or chicken. Powdery mildew can attack it, but will not harm taste or production; this variety is no wimp. Plenty of air movement discourages mildew/ Grow Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca) nearby to attract the tiny, stingless wasps whose larvae prey on vine-borer eggs and Gusto!.

Best Year Over Year

I have planted this squash for many years and consider it to be the finest of summer squash. The compact bush plants are prolific with beautifully striped, firm and very flavorful fruits. This one does it all as it freezes or dries beautifully. This is much nicer than most modern varieties and you'll love it!

Love Cocozelle Sqyaxh

This is my second time to purchase this because I loved the small zucchini. Like most varieties you will get lots of squash and I picked them small for stir frying.
