Aspabroc Broccoli (F1 Hybrid 50 Days)

Capture the savory taste of broccoli and asparagus in one plant. Entire plant is edible with extremely tender, long slender stems with asparagus like texture and florets that have a sweet, milder flavor with a slight peppery undertone. Performs well with little space in a spring or fall planting. Harvest the small 3-4” main stalk head first, smaller florets will continue for over a month. A hybrid of broccoli and Kai Lan - Chinese broccoli, developed in the early 1990’s, it has gained popularity over the last 20 years.

Harvest: Pick when heads are tight before flower buds starts to open. For varieties that produce side shoots keep picked for a longer production

Tips: Provide fertile soil, rich in organic matter from the very beginning of its growth in the garden. Amend with compost if soil is not fertile. Give adequate, even moisture for the best growth. Mulching helps retain moisture.

Simply delicious

Grows fast and the little florets are delicious. I'll sit on my deck and see a floret is ready. I jump up and go over to the window box and snap off a piece and pop it in my mouth. So flavorful. I'll grow this every year.

My favorite broccoli

Flavor Flavor Flavor Awesome flavor, plus abundant side shoots! This year 2021 the main head was small, as we do not do auto irrigation with only 16 plants in a 12 ft bed, city allows handwatering only. We do mulch 6-8" of organic wheat straw which helps immensely. However the side shoots (also small due to drought) keep coming! Have shared many harvest with neighbors. Will also vacu-seal & freeze. Last year did some chili pepper broccoli pickles (w/garlic!) which worked great too. Highly recommend this broccoli!

Asper-broc a bit disappointing

I started this seed indoors and have recently transplanted it out into the garden. The plants never got very big and had spindly stalks. I am hoping they perk up in the real garden and the great outdoors but I have already lost a few of them. It could be me and something I am doing or not doing. Don't think i will try them again.

An ask for Pintree Gardens

I have been so very happy with your seeds, and buy from you yearly. I am also a volunteer with Virginia Cooperative Extension in Arlington, VA. We give out seeds to low income families and help them start gardens, especially important in these pandemic times. We are in need of seeds for urban gardens and are requesting donations. If you have seeds, even out of date are fine, that you could donate to us we would be so appreciative. You could send them to me, or I can get you in touch with our Virginia Cooperative Extension Horticultural Agent, Kirsten Buhl who is running this program. Thanks for considering to help us in this effort. Stay safe, and healthy, Virginia

Seeds arrived promptly, germination was excellent, & I can't see myself growing any other variety of broccoli besides this one. Germination was super quick (48 hrs. on damp paper towels in a Ziploc bag), pinched out the main heads as soon as they appeared, & have been enjoying the lovely, tender, long-stemmed headed sprouts for several weeks now, with more popping up every day. Oh - & I'm growing them in large tubs on my deck & can confirm that they're performing extremely well in that capacity. Will definitely be putting in a Fall crop & will also be growing them next Spring.
