Sea Foam Swiss Chard (53 Days)

10 reviews

This interesting chard doesn't come in a unique color; it just has a great flavor and texture. Shiny, crinkled green leaves cling to a creamy white stem. This variety is mild, tender, and tasty.

Sea Foam is the reason I order from Pinetree

I’ve grown this chard regularly and I have never been disappointed. I have never had poor germination or any issue with it. For taste it cannot be beat. Grow the colorful chards in your flower beds and save this one for the veg patch.

Sea Foam Swiss Chard

I bought this variety last year and it was fantastic! Huge leaves, crispy ribs, and it grew and grew and grew. It's one of the few varieties I will continue to have in my garden every year. A real workhorse!

not as vigorous as expected

germination was about half. even after germination, some plants just wilted and died. now that they are about 6 inches high, haven't had any more die. we will see how they do when starting to harvest. i did expect better though.

Hi Sharon, So the plants that wilted and died - probably "damping off" which is a fungal disease. It's just something in the soil that happens sometimes, without knowing. In the future, sometimes supplying a fan for circulation can help. Pinetree Garden Seeds

The germination was low for me this year. I planted early and late, but I only have one plant from about 25 or so seeds. That one plant that took off did so after I started watering, and is just now getting big enough to cut. I harvested three leaves and they were very tender, sweet and smooth with barely any midrib. Better than regular old chard. I think it was too dry and cold this year, for good germination. I feel if I watered early and often, it would have been a better test and would probably grown great. I have a few seeds more and will plant them later. This spring and month has been unusually dry and cold. Peas and even the asparagus were poor as well because it was too so dry and cold in my area.
