This special fig cultivar can withstand the colder temperatures of the north, unlike other fig varieties. The plant dies back in the winter and has the ability to re-sprout every year producing crops of medium-sized fruit, ripening late summer into fall. Big, curvy & grass green, tropical-looking leaves provide a visually stunning and unique landscape plant. It is best to give the fig the warmest and most protective place in the landscape; this, along with mulching over the cold season, will bring great success in a northern garden. Can grow to 12’ when provided with the right conditions. Zone 5-10.

PLANTING

Figs can be planted directly in the ground, after the last frost, in a protected sunny area near your house. There should be at least 1" of organic material on top. The remainder of the soil can be of poor quality. Soil too rich will produce meager growth and a limited crop. When new growth comes up from the ground, select only a few shoots to mature. Prune all others so that plenty of sun can reach between each branch. New growth can produce figs the same year.

Will Hopefully Upgrade Review as Time Passes

Geesh. You know, I was leery before I ordered when I noticed that there was ZERO info as to pot size, bareroot, or how this plant was shipped. That should have been a warning that it was my fault that I ignored. (Shame on you Pinetree for not putting that info on your website.) But I took a leap of faith. So imagine when I today receive a FLAT USPS cardboard envelope containing a FLAT 4" high bare "stick" with a soaking wet soil-enclosed root system wrapped in Saran-wrap. For $16.95 + shipping. Really?? Not even potted? I have no choice but to give it the best try I can, but frankly I'm not terribly impresses or hopeful. But I'm a fair person, & if this poor thing takes off & does well, I'll certainly come back & happily eat my words.

HI Bonnie, I will pass this on to the folks that handle the catalog descriptions that it should state "bare root stock". Your fig should take right off once you get it potted. The Chicago Hardy Fig is a very hardy plant. If you don't see growth with in our 90 day guarantee policy please let us now and we can refund the cost. Thank you and have a wonderful Spring Season! Deby

Fig tree

My fig is doing great! Growing like crazy and I certainly don't expect figs this year but in Vermont we have had a very hot summer so maybe. I am very pleased with my new addition.

The box arrived I was thinking if this fig makes it I would be surprised. Not only did it make it it has triple in size. I am waiting for the fruit to set next year this year I'll be pulling any fruit this first year to help establish the plant. I would purchase this again.
