PLANTING

Cucurbita pepo

Germination: 4-10 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 70-85ºF

Seed Sowing Depth: 1/2-1" deep

Sowing Indoors: 3-4 weeks before last frost. Provide 70-85ºF soil temperature. Sow 2-3 seeds per cell/pot. Sowing into individual biodegradable peat/cow pots reduces root damage when transplanting. Transplant 36-48" apart after last frost.

Sowing Outdoors: Sow after last frost when soil temperature is over 70ºF. Sow a few seeds every 36-48".

Harvest: Check and harvest a few times a week. Cut or kindly twist off fruit, starting at a 3-4”.

Tips: Plant in fertile soil, amended with compost or well rotted manure and keep well watered. They benefit from growing on black plastic and by using row covers for weed, insect control, and more rapid growth.

The Most Insect Resistant Squash

I live in a hot, humid southern area with a lot of insect pressure from both squash bugs and both kinds of cucumber beetles. This Lemon Squash doesn't seem to be bothered by either, it's the one variety that I can count on to keep growing and producing all summer long. I had one plant that seemed to act as a trap crop for squash bugs. Even when I missed egg clutches and the nymphs hatched out before I could spray them with neem oil it didn't seem to phase the plant at all. It continued to produce multiple delicious fruits well into fall. I can't recommend this variety enough if you're looking for a one that is a true survivor.

Wonderful lemon squash, a big hit in my garden. I planted the squash on June 22. The seeds germinated very well and I picked the first squash before August. These are the best yellow squash I have ever eaten! Pick them small, cube, toss into melted butter, cover and steam for a few minutes. Wonderful! Still producing , laughing at bugs, tolerating drought. I will grow them again, maybe in tomato cages next time.

Very good, seeds arrived quickly in good shape.

Lemon Summer Squash

Pinetree does a fine job. I ordered over the phone so I am able to ask questions. The potato sets were delivered at the right time in the spring and produced a successful harvest. The Lemon Summer Squash and Ronde De Nice are excellent squash which I will want again in the spring. The Northeaster Pole Bean had poor germination, unfortunately.

Will plant again!

Germinated well 80 percent. Producing lots of thin skinned mild squash.
