Monte Gusto Pole Bean (58 Days)

Harvests of golden-yellow beans are possible all season with this variety. Harvest at 6-7” for thin and smooth filet beans or let them plump up to maturity at 8-9 “. Picking, either way, these burst with great bean flavor. Stringless.

PLANTING

Phaseolus vulgaris

Germination: 4-10 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures are 70-85ºF

Seed Sowing Depth: 1” deep

Outside Sowing: After the last frost with soil temperatures above 60ºF.  Sow 3- 4” apart for trellis/pole growth. Planting in soil under 60ºF results in poor germination.

How much does a packet plant: 12-foot single row

Harvest: Before the seeds bulge and beans snap easily. Pick continually every 2-3 days to prolong production.

Tips: Grow in light, well-drained soil, provide adequate, even moisture, especially at flowering time. Dry soil can result in low yields and fibrous pods. Do not over-fertilize with nitrogen which results in a surplus of foliage and low, delayed pod growth. Adding inoculant at planting time aids in a larger harvest and more robust plants.

Great pole bean

Pretty productive crop of 7 to 8 inch straight, slender beans. Easy to locate when picking because of the yellow color. The is a keeper.

So slender and prolific.

This is my favorite yellow pole bean. It stays sweet and slender and the yellow color makes it easy to find amongst the leaves. It also continues to produce well all season long. It is a must in my garden.

Excellent

The flavor is wonderful. They stay stringless and tender even when allowed to get to 10+ inches. They produce until it snows if watered and fertilized again in August. I tried another yellow pole bean this year and had hundreds of inedible "Sunshine " yellow pole beans that I let rot on the vine because they were stringy at the 5 inch range. I will go back to my tried and true Monte Gustos this year. Their production is moderate so I grow them with Fortex, another moderate producer and Carminat, a heavy producer. I highly recommend all three of those beans!

Good pole beans

These seeds germinated well, vines grow fast and produced beans fairly early, taste really good and the beans longer than most yellow stringbeans
