Arugula (38 Days)

9 reviews

A somewhat pungent salad green. Young leaves are sort of nutty and mustardy. Older leaves can become unpleasantly bitter, but the flowers are edible and attract pollinators. It is wise to protect this plant from flea beetles with a row cover. This is the best variety for our March-April planting and May-June harvests. Wild Arugula is better for the rest of the summer.

500 seeds

Eruca sativa

Germination: 3-7 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 60-70ºF

Seed Sowing Depth: ¼ inch deep

Sowing Outdoors: Early spring through late summer and fall. Sow heavy seeded rows, 40-50 seeds per foot. Sow every 2-3 weeks for a continuous harvest.

How much does a packet plant: 10-12 foot single row

Harvest: Start cutting leaves at  2-4".

Tips:Plant in fertile, well drained soil. Work in compost or well rotted manure into your soil before planting if needed. Provide adequate, even moisture for the best growth. Use row cover to control flea beetles. When arugula bolts the flowers are edible and attract pollinators

Always helpful and efficient. The arugula came up gang busters. Just the right tang. Yummmy.

Sowed indoors and germinated well. After growing under a grow light for 2 wks, it was transplanted in the garden in a cold frame. Taste is delish! Peppery but not too hot, it makes a wonderful salad.

Not much yield but tasty

Fast delivery. Arugula didn’t yield as much as I hoped for, but the taste is good.

Wave petunias

I planted blue wave and silver wave. They were under lights and in a warm room. I got only 3 blue and 2 silver. Very poor germination.

nice big leaves

I started the arugula seeds inside in March and set them into the garden April 9. I harvested nice big leaves all through May. They started to bolt on Memorial Day but I'm still harvesting in June. Taste is a little stronger since it's bolted but not too bitter. Bigger leaves than other arugulas I've grown in the past.
