Beit Alpha Cucumber (F1 Hybrid 52 Days)

Also called a Lebanese or Middle Eastern Cucumber, much of the breeding work on these varieties has been done in Israel. The large, smooth, somewhat blocky, burpless, and nearly spineless fruit can either be pickled or eaten fresh. The flavor is very mild.

 25 seeds

Cucumis sativus

Germination: 4-10 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 70-85ºF

Seed Sowing Depth: 1/2-1" deep

Sowing Indoors: 3-4 weeks before the last frost. Provide 70-85ºF soil temperature. Sow 2-3 seeds per cell/pot. Sowing into individual biodegradable peat/cow pots reduces root damage when transplanting. Transplant 36-48" apart after the last frost.

Sowing Outdoors: Sow after the last frost when the soil temperature is over 70ºF. Sow a few seeds every 36-48".

Harvest: Check and pick every day to keep the harvest flowing.

Tips: Plant in fertile soil, amended with compost or well-rotted manure, and keep well watered. Trellising the vines allow for good air circulation, takes up less space, and provides shade for heat-sensitive crops like lettuce. They benefit from growing on black plastic and by using row covers for weed, insect control, and more rapid growth.

    Bitter, irregular

I had high hopes for these but was extremely disappointed. I have never had trouble growing cucumbers before (and the weather was great for growing cucumbers) but this variety failed for me. Some plants had misshapen fruit that was tough and over ripened quickly. Another plant (from the same seed packet) had promising looking, uniform fruit but was incredibly bitter. Yield was also poor. I’ve never had trouble with a marketmore cucumber or diva, I will be going back to those tried and true varieties.

These are my all time favorite cukes

I have grown these for the past several years. They are practically skinless, but also pickle well! Bright and fresh taste, super clean texture and crunchy! Prolific and dependable producer, my fave.

    Sweet little cucumbers

I love these! Sweet and tender. I started them indoors, they grew and produced well. I especially liked the tender thin skin and sweet flavor. A summer treat.

These were our favorite cucumber variety. My daughter loves the mini cucumbers from the store and these are just like them when picked smaller. They are great as a larger slicer as well. Produced a lot of cucumbers all season. Will grow again!
