Gold Nugget Tomato (55 Days)

Tomatoes are small, an inch or so in diameter, and a healthy golden color. They are one of the earliest to mature in the field, not prone to cracking and don't have a lot of seeds. Flavor is memorable, similar to Yellow Pear. This variety, bred by Dr. James Baggett at Oregon State, is fairly compact allowing efficient space utilization.

25 seeds

Solanum lycopersicum

Germination: 7-14 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 70-85ºF.

Seed Sowing Depth: 1/4” deep

Starting Indoors: 6 weeks before last frost. Provide 75-80ºF soil temperatures. Sow 2-3 seeds per cell/pot, thin to the strongest seedling or use the 20 Row seedling flat, transplanting into individual pots when seedlings get their 3rd set of leaves. Fertilize the seedlings every 7-10 days with a liquid or water soluble fertilizer, diluted to ¼ of suggested measurement. Transplant out after last frost. Space 24-36" apart

Sowing Outdoors: Only in areas with very long growing seasons. Sow after last frost.

Harvest: When fruit is red (or color of the variety planted) and firm.

Tips: Plant in fertile soil, amended with compost, mulch and provide even moisture. Plant deeper than they were growing in the containers as it makes a stronger roots system. Apply a light compost tea every few weeks. Do not apply excessive nitrogen, which can promote excessive foliage and poor fruit set.

A Pinetree Fan

I really enjoy shopping Pinetree. I am a looker and thinker so Igo through the catalog and then go to the web site to confirm my garden wants. The catalog is a bit tough to read for old folks lie me but is loaded with varieties and new products. Also enjoy staff comments. I have been a Pinetree fan for some 25 years and have discovered some real gems to grow. I start my seeds early and then direct plant a bit later on. I often have fresh tomatoes by Memorial Day. Bought Gold Nugget to plant late in season so they are just in the ground and doing very nicely. I am a huge fan!

Lovely golden tomatoes

These plants were seeded late in the spring but, in spite of the drought have grown healthy and are producing beautiful golden tomatoes. So happy to have taken a chance on these seeds.
