Bountiful Bush Bean (Heirloom 46 Days)

4 reviews

Heirloom 1898.

Very early, great canning bean. Pods are about 6” long, borne over a relatively long period of time. Foliage and beans are lighter green in color than most others. Great for extra early summer harvests and also late summer plantings. As an older variety, this one may throw out a few runners.Stringless.

1 ounce = approx. 80-100 seeds

PLANTING

Phaseolus vulgaris

Germination: 4-10 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 70-85ºF

Seed Sowing Depth: 1” deep

Outside Sowing: After the last frost with soil temperatures above 60ºF. Sow 2-3” apart. Planting in soil under 60ºF results in poor germination.

How much does a packet plant: 25-foot single row

Harvest: Before the seeds bulge and beans snap easily. Pick continually every 2-3 days to prolong production.

Tips: Grow in light, well-drained soil, provide adequate, even moisture, especially at flowering time. Dry soil can result in low yields and fibrous pods. Do not over-fertilize with nitrogen which results in a surplus of foliage and low, delayed pod growth. Adding inoculant at planting time aids in a larger harvest and more robust plants. Sow a few times a season, 3-4 weeks apart for a continuous harvest.

Favorite Beans

Bountiful is the best name for these beans because they are still producing from our spring planting in NE Ohio. They'll climb if you let them. I've grown all types of beans but these have become my new favorite. We sowed a second planting when we thought the originals may die back, but they're still producing in September.

Amazing!

The seeds arrived much faster than I expected. I have had a 100% germination rate! And the personal handwriiten note made me realize that EVERY costumer is important. I wasn't just an order number! Love them! I will always order my seeds from them.

almost a pole bean!

This is a yummy bean. It does vine to about 4 feet here in the mid-Atlantic. Tall pea-brush type support is enough to keep it from tangling so much that you can't find the beans.
