This perennial spinach substitute has been grown since before the Revolution. A staple of the dooryard gardens at Sturbridge Village. Seeds are large and slow to germinate, so be patient. Properly known as tetragone, the flavor is quite similar to real spinach. 15 seeds PLANTING: Indoors- 1/2” deep, 2-3 weeks before last frost. Soak seed overnight to speed up germination. Outdoors- 1/2” deep, 2-4” apart, after last frost. Harvest- Cut young leaves and tips. This will also encourage new growth. Tips- Plant in fertile soil amended with compost or well-rotted manure, mulch, and water regularly. For the tenderest leaves do not let the soil dry out. Spreading habit.
