As with all the Italian rampicante (pole) beans, yields are just overwhelming. Beans are a bright yellow and flattened as you would expect but larger than a typical romano type. Flavor is great, an Italian classic. (approx. 60 seeds)

Planting under 60 degrees results in poor germination. Pole type: Plant 1” deep and 3- 4” apart for trellis/pole growth. Drying type: 1” deep and 5-6” apart. Leave beans on the plant until the leaves are falling and pods are dry and withered Harvest- Before the seeds bulge and beans snap easily. Pick continually to prolong production. Tips- Water well during hot dry period and do not over fertilize which results in a surplus of foliage and low, delayed pod growth. Adding inoculant at planting time aids in a larger harvest and more robust plants. Plant seeds every 2-3 weeks for continual harvest throughout the summer.

Best Flavor! Review by Beverly
I've grown Marengo for about five years now and it's by far my favorite. We live at nearly 6000 feet in altitude in northern Utah. This variety tolerates the dry air, heat and bright sun very well. The flavor is rich and "beany" and this variety freezes and dehydrates well. I don't can beans so I can't speak there but it probably would be wonderful. Highly recommended! (Posted on 1/26/14)
