Somerset, developed by Elmer Swenson, has tight clusters of medium sized grapes ripening in August. The grapes are edible when they turn pink but take on an unparalleled strawberry-like flavor when they are allowed to ripen to a deep red color. Superior fresh eating or for juice or jelly. Hardy to zone 4.
Grow grapes in a sunny area on a support and keep well watered the first year. You do not have to wait for a frost to harvest grapes, as they will begin to ripen in late summer or early fall. We sell 2 year old no. 1 plants and these varieties are hardy to zones 4-5. Grapes take about 2 years to begin fruiting.
Grapes are shipped from Mid-March through early May. At the time of your order, you may request a shipping date. All Spring orders should be placed prior to March 14th. After that, stock is limited.
