A giant relative of Lambsquaters grown for its glowing magenta young leaf tips. Magentaspreen-Lambsquarters Greens are easy to grow in heat or cold, where they can be harvested at 8 inches in 30 days or left to continue upward to 8 feet. With a taste similar to spinach each tip is magenta coated with powdery iridescence. The Magentaspreen-Lambsquarters Greens are spectacular in a salad mix, or can be used any way you would many greens, steamed. Cultivated in the other parts of the world and first introduced here in the early 1980s. It will self-seed if left to grow.

PLANTING

Chenopodium gigantium

Germination: 4-14 days

Germination Temperature: Optimum soil temperatures 70-75ºF. 

Seed Sowing Depth: 1/4" deep

Sowing Outdoors: After the last frost. Sow heavy seeded rows, 30-50 seeds per foot. Sow every 2-3 weeks for a continuous harvest. 

Harvest: Start harvesting young leaves tips when the plant reaches 6-8"

Tips: Plant Magentaspreen-Lambsquarters Greens in average to fertile soil. Deadhead to prevent self-seeding
